In Colorado, my patients have the most amazing adventures! Most dogs here are weekend warriors, enjoying anything from swimming and strenuous treks in the summer to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. It’s crucial to have wholesome food for your dog if you take them wherever you go. Having inte
resting, healthful food is a great way to show your dog some love, but, if he or she is a couch potato like my pug.
These are my top picks for nutritious dog treats:
Fresh fruitsOn a strenuous trek, bananas, apple slices (with skin on), blueberries, strawberries, and melon may make a delightful snack. Fruits can keep your dog healthy and active since they are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants. Use them sparingly, if at all, if your dog has diabetes or you’d prefer him to lose weight. Remember that certain dogs are poisonous to grapes and raisins, so stay away from them.
Fresh vegetables. My two favorite vegetables to feed dogs are raw carrots (or cooked) and kale chips. By roasting kale in a tiny bit of olive oil and seasoning it with salt, you can bake kale chips. Dogs may safely eat other veggies such as bell peppers, potatoes, and squash. Onion is the one vegetable that you should never eat.
Peanut butter filled toys. Fill a Kong (or similar toy) if your dog wants a snack and some amusement while they’re on the way. This will provide your dog with a stress-relieving boost of fat and protein. For a meal that lasts longer, you may fill a Kong with additional foods like applesauce and pumpkin and freeze the contents. Here are some of my favorite recipes.
TreatsIf you’re pressed for time, make sure your car and pantry are always supplied with nutritious snacks like fruits and vegetables. Super Smarty Hearties is one of my faves. In addition to being appetizing, it contains omega 3 fatty acids. This can promote joint health and lessen inflammation.
I hope to hear from you soon! Tell me in the comments below what you give your dog on special occasions. Extra credit for images!
